Official starting signal for the KöTower

Together with WPV (Versorgungswerk der Wirtschaftsprüfer und der vereidigten Buchprüfer) and Laarakkers, we today invited guests to the construction site at Königsallee 106, where the existing building from the 1960s is currently being demolished and where a 17-storey office building will stand in the future: the KöTower.

Despite freezing temperatures, more than 150 project partners, financiers, representatives from politics, administration and the neighborhood made their way to the construction site to get a live impression of the ongoing work.

Lord Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller emphasized the importance of the KöTower for the district and the state capital of Düsseldorf: “The green KöTower will completely reshape the silhouette of our city. The surrounding area will also benefit from the creation of a new forecourt as part of the new building. Catella has succeeded in bringing a large group of stakeholders into the dialog in order to define measures for upgrading the interface between the Kö and the adjacent district to the south. I very much welcome and support this initiative.”

Klaus Franken, Catella Project Management: “The KöTower will be THE new landmark in Düsseldorf’s city center: a particularly sustainable prime office building with many unique selling points. Innovative working environments attract everyone to the office of the future in the heart of the city. Each rental unit has its own exit, be it a terrace or a balcony. In addition, the top roof terrace offers a fantastic view over the whole of Düsseldorf, the region and, of course, the Kö promenade.”
ESG criteria are a top priority for the KöTower. 200 different plant species will characterize the façade and roof surfaces. At the same time, almost 2,000 m² of PV systems will be installed, of which around 1,650 m² will be integrated into the green façade, supplemented by additional systems on the roof areas. The deconstruction, which is being managed by Laarakkers, is already being monitored and documented in detail with a view to achieving DGNB Platinum certification. For example, all sanitary facilities, kitchens, windows and raised floors will be removed and reused. The use of an electric excavator and electric trucks also reduces environmental and noise pollution in the city center.
