The demolition work is progressing – now it’s time to go up

The demolition of Düsseldorf’s Kö 106 is in full swing to make way for the new KöTower. Sustainability is already a top priority in this phase, which is why the Laarakkers Group is supporting us here with its extensive expertise in sustainable demolition.

The time-lapse video shows the progress of the construction site over the last 9 months:

Wiljan Laarakkers, owner of the Laarakkers Group: “The various materials from the existing building will be professionally reused during the demolition of Kö 106. The use of an electric excavator and electric trucks also reduces the environmental and noise impact in the city center. The concentrated inner-city environment of the demolition work presents us with major challenges. The work inside the high-rise building has been completed and the demolition of the surrounding buildings is coming to an end. We are currently dismantling the facade of the high-rise building with a 75 m high crane. The technical floor at the top has already disappeared. We are delighted to have Catella as a client who, like us, has recognized the importance of the construction industry for the climate and the environment and is committed to sustainable demolition and project development. This makes us both pioneers in the industry.

Esther Schmidt-Lunk, Project Manager for Environmental Technology at Reducta GmbH, responsible for superstructure management, adds: “It is particularly important to us that attention is paid not only to efficiency but also to the conservation of resources during dismantling. By carefully separating and documenting the materials, we create the basis for high-quality recycling. This project is an example of how sustainable dismantling can work in practice – with low emissions, reduced noise and in line with the goals of the circular economy.”
